VS-880EX Application Guide
Sometimes it is also helpful to think about the audio signal as an actual wire (patch
cord) that you are holding in your hand. For example, plug a cable into your guitar.
Hold the other end in your hand. You are now holding an OUTPUT (the output of
the guitar). Every OUTPUT is always looking for the next INPUT. So I plug the
guitar cord into the INPUT of the VS-880EX. Now you visualize the guitar signal
flowing through the input amplifier, etc.
The VS-880EX Mixer
As you can see from the front panel, the VS-880EX provides 8 channel mixing faders. However, unlike a
conventional analog mixer where every fader is hard-wired to perform a specific function, the VS-880EX
digital mixer is virtual (assignable) – meaning that you can change the function of the buttons and faders
by using the [FADER/EDIT] button. This provides the VS-880EX digital mixer a high degree of flexibility.
The [FADER/EDIT] button can be set to INPUT (orange), TRACK (green), or RETURN (red).
Using the [FADER/EDIT] Button
The [FADER/EDIT] button is the key to using the VS-880EX’s mixer. It controls the functions of the faders
and the parameters available using the [CH EDIT] buttons.
When the [FADER/EDIT] button is lit orange, the faders are used to control the inputs (anything
connected to the input jacks on the VS-880EX’s rear panel). When the [FADER/EDIT] button is lit green,
the faders are used to control the tracks (anything that is already recorded). When the [FADER/EDIT]
button is lit red, the faders are used to control the returns (the output of the effects processors and the
inputs designated as the stereo in).
