Strategy for managing styles, songs and UPG's
Overall strategy
Several users have been contacting the user club asking for information on a best-practise
for managing data on the G-70 / E-80. There are of course many possible strategies.
However it is important to choose a strategy - otherwise you might "drown" in styles,
songs and UPG's. Below I will describe one strategy to follow, so you will not eventually
find yourself trapped with tons of unstructured data - and no way out. If your follow the
instructions below you will get a system with the following characteristics:
ROM styles will reside on internal memory
Songs will reside on external memory
Styles will reside on external memory
UPG's will reside on internal memory
UPS's will reside on internal memory
Why this? Well, I decided that songs and styles should reside on external memory because
free internal memory is only 50MB. That is not enough free space for most professional
musicians. Using external memory your memory limit can be extended up to 1GB. UPG's
reside on internal memory because I want to be able to use the Music Assistant. The
Music Assistant requires the UPG files to reside on internal memory. The ROM styles
should reside only on internal memory so there is no choice about these files. Notice
however that you can make a copy of the ROM styles to external memory, if you prefer a
modified copy. The advanced user should notice that it is actually possible to override the
ROM styles by making a modified version and via the PC load the factory data including
these overrided ROM styles. Below I will describe how you structure your data as I
suggest. Before you start - be sure that you have installed the latest system update
version. Then:
Backup all your data (Do not proceed before this is done!)
Unzip the latest factory data files.
Format your external memory card via the G-70 / E-80.
Now follow this instruction:
Press and hold [Arr], [ARROW DOWN] and [Piano] - button while powering on the
keyboard.
Press [1] - button in the USER PROGRAM section to begin formatting internal
memory.
Connect your PC and keyboard using USB (connect to internal memory).
Copy the content of unzipped ROM Styles folder from the factory data folder
structure to the ROM Styles folder on the keyboard:
When the keyboard is done writing, press [DISCONNECT] in the keyboards display.
Disconnect the USB cable.
Power OFF the keyboard and after about 10 seconds, Power ON the keyboard.
Press [MENU] > [UTILITIES] > [FACTORY RESET] > [EXECUTE] to initialize the device
