Congratulations on your purchase of the Roland
MP-60 Digital Piano. This TurboStart contains
step-by-step instructions that will quickly introduce
you the MP-60’s major features.
Listening to Internal Songs
The MP-60 comes with 65 piano songs built-in. Use
the following steps to play one of these demo songs:
1. Press the SONG/TEMPO button so it’s lit red.
2. Press the + or – button to select a song: d.1-65.
3. Press the PLAY button to start the song.
4. Press the PLAY button again to stop the song.
Listening to Tones
The MP-60 contains 15 different internal tones.
Tones are organized into five tone groups with three
variations each. Use the following steps to select a
tone:
1. Press any TONE SELECT button to select a
tone group.
2. Press the VARIATION button to select a
variation within the selected group.
3. Play the keyboard to listen to the selected tone.
Using Dual Play
Playing two tones with one key is called “Dual Play.”
Use the following steps to try out Dual Play:
1. Decide on the two tones you’d like to hear
together, piano and strings, for instance.
2. Simultaneously press the two desired TONE
SELECT buttons.
3. Play the keyboard to hear the two selected tones
together.
Using Split Play
Dividing the keyboard into right-hand and left-hand
areas and playing different sounds in each is called
“Split Play.” Use the following steps to try Split Play:
1. Press the SPLIT button.
2. Press the desired TONE SELECT button to
select the right-hand tone.
3. Press the VARIATION button repeatedly to
select the left-hand tone. The available left hand
tones depend on the right-hand tone you’ve
selected.
Transposing the Key of the Keyboard
You can raise or lower the pitch of your playing
without having to change your keyboard
performance—the MP-60’s Transpose feature lets
you shift its pitch by pressing keys on its keyboard.
When you’re setting up transposition, each key from
F# to B represents one downward semitone step of
transposition, while each key from C# to F represents
one upward semitone step. Here's how to transpose:
1. Hold down TRANSPOSE so it blinks, and then
press the key that’s the desired number of
semitone steps below or above the Middle C
key.
2. Release the TRANSPOSE button.
3. To turn off transposition, press TRANSPOSE
again so it’s not lit.
Recording a New Song
The MP-60 can record your performance. Use the
following steps to record:
1. Press the SONG/TEMPO button so it’s lit red.
2. Press the + and – buttons at the same time so
that “USr" appears in the display.
3. Select the tone you want to play.
4. Press the REC button.
5. Begin playing the keyboard to start recording.
6. Press PLAY or REC to stop recording.
7. Press the PLAY button to hear your recording.
8. Press the PLAY button again to stop playback of
your performance.
Recording Both Hands Separately
The recorder in the MP-60 has two tracks allowing
you to record your right and left hand separately.
Follow these steps:
1. Press the METRONOME ON/OFF button to turn
the metronome on.
2. Press the + or - button to adjust the tempo.
3. Press the REC button so it’s lit.
4. Press the 1 button to select your first track.
5. Begin playing—recording starts.
6. Press PLAY or REC to stop recording.
7. Press the REC button so it’s lit.
8. Press the 2 button to select your second track.
9. Begin playing—recording starts.
10. Press PLAY or REC to stop the recording.
11. Press PLAY to listen to your recording.
12. Press PLAY or REC to halt playback.
