Welcome
Congratulations on your purchase of the Roland
RD-700SX. This TurboStart contains step-by-step
instructions that will quickly introduce you the
RD-700SX’s major features.
Playing the Demo Songs
There are four demo songs in the RD-700SX. Use
the following procedure to play the demo songs:
1. While holding down NUM LOCK, press EDIT.
2. Use the CURSOR and buttons to select
the desired song.
3. To begin playback, press F2 (PLAY).
4. To stop playback, press F1 (MENU) twice.
Selecting Sounds
The RD-700SX’s categories make it easy to select
tones. Use the following procedure to select a tone:
1. Press the PIANO button in the ONE TOUCH
area.
2. Press a TONE SELECT button to select a
category such as ORGAN or STRINGS.
3. Press DEC or INC to choose a tone within the
selected category.
Layering Tones
The RD-700SX can layer up to four tones. Use the
following procedure to layer a piano tone and a string
tone:
1. Press PIANO in the ONE TOUCH area.
2. Press the PIANO TONE SELECT button, and
then press the INC/DEC buttons to select the
desired piano tone.
3. In the ZONE SWITCH/CONTROL area, press
the UPPER 2 button so it lights.
4. In the ZONE SELECT area, press the UPPER
1•2 button until the UPPER 2 indicator lights.
5. Press the STRINGS TONE SELECT button, and
then use the INC/DEC buttons to select the
desired string tone.
Tip: You can also layer tones by pressing two TONE
SELECT buttons at the same time.
Splitting the Keyboard
You can split the RD-700SX keyboard so there’s one
tone beneath your left hand and another tone
beneath your right. These tones are called “lower”
and “upper” tones, respectively. Use the following
procedure to split the keyboard:
1. Select a tone as described earlier—this sound
will play in the upper half of your split keyboard.
2. Press SPLIT so that the LOWER ONE indicator
in the ZONE SWITCH/CONTROL area is lit.
3. Press the LOWER 1•2 ZONE SELECT button
until the LOWER 1 indicator lights.
4. Press the desired TONE SELECT button to
choose the lower sound’s tone category.
5. Press the DEC/INC buttons to select the lower
sound’s tone.
6. Use the sliders located beneath UPPER 1 and
LOWER 1 in the ZONE SWITCH/CONTROL
area to control the volume for the two split tones.
7. Press SPLIT to exit Split mode.
Note: To change the keyboard’s split point, press and
hold SPLIT for several seconds to display the Split
Point menu. While continuing to hold SPLIT, press a
key where you want the new split point to be.
Transposing the Keyboard
Use the following procedure to transpose the
keyboard:
1. Press and hold the TRANSPOSE button to
display the current transpose value.
2. While holding TRANSPOSE:
use the DEC/INC buttons to set the desired
transpose value, or
press a key on the keyboard to set the
desired transpose value.
3. Release the TRANSPOSE button—transposition
is now active.
4. To turn off the transposition, press TRANSPOSE
so it’s not lit.
Note: The transpose value you selected will remain
in temporary memory until it is changed, or until you
power off.
